Ensuring a suitable environment through our Riser Cast-In Modules.
A joint initiative between Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Charity, the Oriel Eye Care Centre represents a significant advancement in the delivery of eye care programmes, treatments and inspections. Leading construction and property development company Bouygues was appointed to oversee the construction and installation of this eye care centre.
Bouygues UK operates nationally and are experts in the construction industry, particularly in high rise buildings. They understand the necessary qualities for these projects, which include safety, ease of installation and sustainability. With these factors in mind, Bouygues choose the Dura Riser Cast-In Modules for the riser fall protection element of this project. Cast-in to concrete as a fully structural solution to reduce the risk of death or serious injury. The modules are pre-fabricated with the grating added to the framework, facilitating rapid installation.
We are the leading designer, manufacturer, supplier and installer of steel-supported GRP riser flooring systems for muti-storey buildings and cover everything from design to material supply, to contract installation. Our Riser portfolio of products have a range of enhanced safety features such as a market leading EN13501 Class B fire rating for the d² Dura Grating panels which form the walking surface, and an anti-slip surface that is tested to over 1 million footfalls.
The decision was made by Bouygues to use a solid top grating for the Riser Cast-In Module to reduce air traffic between hospital floors, thereby minimising the risk of cross-contamination between wards—a crucial consideration in healthcare settings. The d² grating product’s lightness, (being up to 33% lighter than similar products), enhanced installation ease by reducing the required manpower and time taken to fit the modules. Each riser Cast-In Module was pre-built by our in-house team, further simplifying the installation process by minimising on-site assembly time and effort.
The client specification required the design of the Dura Cast-In Modules to withstand very high loadings, including those from the B20 formwork panels and periodic use by an operative on a Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) to temporarily access hard-to-reach areas.
Sustainability is a crucial aspect of the Dura Riser Cast-In Module’s design. The d² Dura Grating used in the module boasts 33% less embodied carbon than other GRP grating on the market, thanks to its innovative design. Combined with its 60-year design life, this results in a durable product with a significantly reduced carbon footprint. Furthermore, after its design life has expired, the product can be recycled, ensuring it does not end up in a landfill.
